18世紀後半から19世紀にかけてイギリスのスタッフォードシャー地方で製造され、ヴィクトリア朝時代に流行した陶器製の犬の置物です。主にマントルピース（暖炉の上の飾り棚）を飾るために、左右対称のペアで制作されることが多かったため、「マントルピース・ドッグ」とも呼ばれます。
スパニエル犬をモチーフにしていることが多く、手描きによる愛らしい表情が特徴です。
